
Beijing, August 22: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Tang Zhong on August 21 in Jakarta.
Prabowo highlighted that under President Xi Jinping’s leadership, China has successfully lifted millions out of poverty and achieved remarkable accomplishments in economic, technological, and military sectors. These achievements serve as an example for countries in the Global South. He noted that China has provided valuable support and trust to Indonesia. Prabowo expressed Indonesia’s eagerness to strengthen comprehensive strategic cooperation with China, welcoming more Chinese enterprises to invest in Indonesia while opposing any attempts to create discord by malicious actors. He also mentioned his anticipation of participating in the APEC informal summit in Shenzhen this November.
Wang Yi stated that both the Chinese and Indonesian governments are committed to economic development and public welfare. No force can hinder the rise of China, Indonesia, and other developing nations. He emphasized the clear complementarities between China and Indonesia. China is a reliable, long-term, and stable partner in Indonesia’s development. Wang urged both nations to strengthen solidarity, mutual trust, and support while maintaining openness and cooperation to safeguard their shared interests and set an example of collaboration for countries in the Global South.
