
Lucknow, August 23: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a special gift for mothers, sisters, and daughters on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Women will be able to travel for free on state transport buses from the night of August 27 to the night of August 28.
During a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister discussed various issues, including law and order, waterlogging, flood relief, education, and sugar availability, and provided necessary directives to officials.
CM Yogi emphasized that Raksha Bandhan is a festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters. Keeping women’s convenience in mind, the state government has arranged for free bus travel. He instructed the transport department to ensure that passengers do not face any difficulties during this period.
In light of the ongoing rainfall in the state, the Chief Minister directed the installation of additional pumping stations in waterlogged areas and immediate cleaning of drains. He stressed the need for effective drainage systems to prevent inconvenience for residents.
Yogi instructed all district magistrates to remain alert, ensuring that there is no negligence in relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas. He emphasized that relief materials and government assistance should reach every affected family promptly.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister clarified that there is no sugar shortage in the state, urging people not to panic. He reported that the state’s sugar mills currently have a stock of 1.7938 million quintals of sugar.
He noted that cooperative sugar mills have 236,000 quintals, corporation mills have 52,800 quintals, and private mills hold 1.505 million quintals. Additionally, 2.35 million quintals of sugar have been sold during June and July, with a significant portion still available in the open market.
The Chief Minister instructed that if necessary, sugar mills should resume operations from October 15 to maintain adequate market availability. He also directed officials to take strict action against sugar black marketing and hoarding, keeping a close watch on those spreading rumors about sugar shortages.
He mandated that no dealer should hold stock for more than 30 days and that no more than 400 tons of sugar can be stored at one time. Large consumers will also not be allowed to keep stock for more than 15 days.
CM Yogi instructed all district magistrates to verify the stocks of wholesalers, retailers, and sugar mill warehouses and to submit a report on the actual stock.
In reviewing the education system, the Chief Minister stated that district magistrates should conduct regular inspections of schools. He emphasized that providing better facilities, a clean environment, and quality education should be the administration’s priority.
He also directed strict action against those spreading misleading videos and rumors on social media that could disrupt the peace. He warned that any attempt to create confusion and unrest in society would not be tolerated.
