Surya Kumar Yadav Breaks Silence After Captaincy Removal, Congratulates Young Talent

New Delhi, June 6: Surya Kumar Yadav, who led India to a T20 World Cup victory, has spoken out following his removal as captain. He extended his best wishes to the national team and congratulated young player Vaibhav Suryavanshi on his first selection for the international squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian team for the upcoming tours of England and Ireland, as well as the 2026 Asian Games, on Saturday. Following his exclusion from the upcoming tours, Surya took to social media to express his thoughts.

The 35-year-old player shared a photo of the Indian team on his Instagram story, writing, “Best of luck to this incredibly talented group for the challenges ahead.”

After the team selection, chief selector Ajit Agarkar described the decision to remove Surya from the captaincy as difficult, especially since he had recently led India to a T20 World Cup title earlier this year.

Agarkar stated in a press conference, “In Surya’s case, it was clearly a tough decision because he had just won the World Cup. It’s not easy to replace a player who has brought you such success.”

Surya’s recent form has disappointed many. The right-handed batsman struggled during the T20 World Cup, managing only 270 runs in 13 innings of IPL 2026.

He also praised 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was the highest run-scorer in IPL 2026 with 776 runs, including one century and five half-centuries. Vaibhav was named the tournament’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ and has now earned a spot in India’s T20 team.

On social media, Surya wrote, “You’ve earned this through hard work. I’m very excited to see your journey.”
