Surat to Contribute Over 35% to Gujarats GSDP by 2047: CM Patel

Gandhinagar, May 1: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the third Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) in Surat on Friday. He emphasized that inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat has adopted an innovative approach to ensure no region is left behind in the development race, while also providing districts with a global platform.

Referring to the success of the previous VGRCs held in North Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch, he stated that the regional conference serves as a perfect platform for building a developed Gujarat for a developed India with an inclusive development spirit.

He highlighted that the VGRC for South Gujarat will accelerate the industrial development potential of Surat and the surrounding districts of Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Dangs, and Bharuch.

The Chief Minister detailed the inherent possibilities in the Surat Economic Region, including chemicals and pharmaceuticals, textiles and apparel, gems and jewelry, agriculture, real estate, and tourism.

He projected that the Surat Economic Region will contribute over 35% to Gujarat’s GSDP by 2047, with a master plan approved to develop Surat as a growth hub under the guidance of the NITI Aayog.

CM Patel noted that, inspired by the Prime Minister, Surat is becoming a well-connected city with multimodal transport through dedicated freight corridors, railway corridors, national highways, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, ports, airports, bullet trains, metro rail, and outer ring roads.

He described the VGRC for South Gujarat, launched on the occasion of Gujarat’s Foundation Day, as a prime example of the significant changes and milestones achieved in the state since 2001 under the Prime Minister’s visionary leadership.

The Chief Minister mentioned that Gujarat handles 40% of the country’s total cargo and holds an 18% share in industrial output and 15% in renewable energy. The state’s own tax revenue has surged from ₹9,000 crore to ₹1.55 lakh crore.

Additionally, Gujarat has made remarkable strides in agriculture, manufacturing, and services over the past two and a half decades. The semiconductor hubs in Sanand and Dholera are operational, with two semiconductor plants already in place. He stated that the Vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit and the Prime Minister’s development vision have made Gujarat the largest job provider in the country.

To fulfill the Prime Minister’s goal of a developed India by 2047, the state is preparing six regional economic master plans with around 20 priority sectors, allowing each district to advance with its unique potential.

He announced that the state government has prepared a roadmap for a developed Gujarat by 2047, outlining goals for how Gujarat will look by then, focusing on earning well and living well. He emphasized boosting investment and employment through futuristic industries like semiconductors, electric vehicles, green hydrogen, and AI.

The Chief Minister called on industry leaders participating in the VGRC to contribute to building a developed Gujarat for a developed India.

He announced the establishment of eight new ‘Smart GIDC’ industrial areas covering a total of 5,380 acres in Surat (2), Bharuch (3), Valsad (1), Tapi (1), and Navsari (1).

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi extended greetings to all citizens on Gujarat’s Foundation Day, stating that the VGRC would energize the development of Surat and South Gujarat. Regional conferences are now being held across the state’s four zones to promote Vibrant Gujarat.

Sanghvi presented statistics showcasing two decades of success for Vibrant Gujarat, noting that the state’s GDP rose from ₹1.29 lakh crore in 2003 to ₹7.20 lakh crore in 2012-13. Continuing this progress, the GDP is projected to reach ₹21.90 lakh crore in 2022-23 and ₹27.4 lakh crore by the end of 2025. Gujarat has become the growth engine of the country, contributing 8.2% to the national GDP, and he praised the invaluable contributions of industrialists in this development journey.
