Supreme Court Welcomes Action on Ram Mandir Donation Controversy, Says Ravidas Mehrotra

Lucknow, July 21: Senior Samajwadi Party leader Ravidas Mehrotra has criticized the central and Uttar Pradesh governments regarding the Ram Mandir donation controversy, protests in Delhi, the monsoon session of Parliament, and social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s movement. He stated that the government’s approach to these issues does not align with democratic values, and the opposition will continue to raise these matters.

Mehrotra welcomed the Supreme Court‘s action concerning the Ram Mandir donation scandal. He remarked, “The court has directed the formation of a new Special Investigation Team (SIT), indicating that the previous investigation was unsatisfactory. Now, if the investigation is conducted under the Supreme Court’s supervision, the truth of the entire matter will come to light, and the culprits can be identified.”

He added that if facts are revealed after the investigation, several prominent names may emerge. The state government should also bear moral responsibility in this matter.

Regarding the student protests in Delhi, the SP legislator noted that youth across the country have been troubled by issues such as examination systems, paper leaks, and employment. The police used batons and tear gas against peacefully protesting students, resulting in injuries. This reflects the government’s repressive policies.

Mehrotra mentioned that several opposition MPs also participated in the protests in support of the students. Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav was present during the protests and faced police action as well. He asserted that the government is attempting to suppress dissenting voices.

Referring to Sonam Wangchuk’s movement, he stated, “They tried to forcibly remove him from Jantar Mantar and end his hunger strike. Wangchuk has vowed to continue his protest until the education minister resigns.”

Commenting on the proceedings of the first day of the monsoon session in Parliament, Mehrotra said, “The proceedings had to be adjourned due to protests both inside and outside the house. The central government is avoiding discussions on opposition issues. In the coming days, there will be demands for discussions on several important topics.”
