New Delhi, July 20: Opposition MPs, including those from the Congress party, have raised concerns regarding the government’s handling of key issues such as the education system, alleged irregularities in the NEET exam, anti-defection laws, misuse of donations at the Ram Temple, and student protests.
Congress MP Manish Tewari spoke to reporters, emphasizing that his party wants the Monsoon Session to be productive. He stated that discussing fundamental issues affecting the public is essential.
He called for accountability regarding the serious flaws in India’s education system. Tewari insisted that there should be a detailed discussion on the alleged misuse of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple, and if any irregularities occurred, those responsible must be held accountable. He mentioned that he has submitted a suspension motion in Parliament demanding a new anti-defection law, arguing that the existing law has failed to serve its purpose. The new legislation should prevent political opportunism while allowing for ideological differences and democratic dissent.
Tewari noted that the political landscape of the Parliament elected in June 2024 has changed significantly by July 2026, making serious consideration of these issues necessary.
Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala criticized the government, highlighting the case of social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was allegedly arrested without allowing his family to meet him. He stated that Congress, Rahul Gandhi, and students across the country are consistently raising this issue.
On the allegations of misappropriation of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari also targeted the government, asserting that action should be taken against those involved in misusing donation funds. He has submitted a notice in Parliament demanding accountability from the government on this matter.
Congress MP Kumari Selja accused the government of failing to reach consensus with the opposition on various issues. She pointed out that there are several serious matters facing the country, yet the government appears uninterested in facilitating discussions. According to her, the government is avoiding dialogue and debate in Parliament.
Congress MP K.C. Venugopal raised the issue of paper leaks in the NEET and CBSE exams. He stated that these incidents have created a climate of concern among millions of students and their families nationwide. He demanded the resignation of the Education Minister, calling for a comprehensive discussion in Parliament on improving the examination system, preventing paper leaks, and maintaining the credibility of exams.
Venugopal also accused the government of evading discussion on this topic and claimed that the Lok Sabha Speaker is not providing the opposition with sufficient opportunities to express their views.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore reiterated that the NEET and paper leak issues are top priorities for their party. Opposition MPs are using placards to draw the government’s attention to ensure that students’ concerns are taken seriously.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant criticized the government for its handling of student protests and the situation of youth. He stated that if these issues had been addressed timely, such circumstances would not have arisen. The government’s attitude towards the youth is unacceptable, and incidents of suicide are extremely concerning.
Samajwadi Party President and MP Akhilesh Yadav also launched a sharp attack on the government. He alleged that opposition MPs were detained in police stations while students protesting were met with harsh treatment.
He questioned who would take responsibility if there were irregularities in the NEET exam. The government has failed on issues related to employment and youth. He demanded justice for students affected by NEET and respectful treatment for those peacefully protesting.
