New Delhi, 29 December. The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Delhi High Court’s order granting bail to former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, convicted in the Unnao rape case. The apex court also issued a notice to Sengar on the CBI’s petition challenging the bail.
The victim expressed her happiness over the Supreme Court’s decision. She said, “I am very happy with the court’s verdict. I have received justice from the Supreme Court and I am confident that justice will continue. I will keep fighting this battle to ensure that he gets the death penalty. Only then will our family receive true justice. I am grateful to everyone who stood by me and helped me seek justice. My father’s soul will find peace only when Kuldeep Singh Sengar is given the death sentence.”
The victim’s mother also thanked the Supreme Court, stating, “We are grateful to the Supreme Court. Those who killed my husband deserve the death penalty.”
On behalf of the victim, lawyer Hemant Kumar Maurya said, “I want to thank the Supreme Court. Today, the court made it clear that under no circumstances should Kuldeep Singh Sengar be released from jail. The victim’s family is still receiving threats, but they have faith in the judiciary.”
Social activist Yogita Bhayana said, “The Supreme Court had earlier indicated readiness to take action at first sight. Now, it has officially ordered a stay on Kuldeep’s bail and asked the victim to intervene and file a petition.”
The Supreme Court hearing on Monday was on the CBI petition against the Delhi High Court’s bail order. After hearing arguments from both sides, the Supreme Court stayed Sengar’s bail and issued him a notice on the CBI petition.
