New Delhi, February 18: The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) petition against Mamata Banerjee in the I-PAC raid case. The next hearing is now set for March 18. The Solicitor General representing the ED stated that the agency would submit its response today.
The ED filed the petition alleging interference during raids at the I-PAC offices. Named in the petition are Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal’s DGP Rajeev Kumar, and Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar. The ED is seeking to register an FIR against all three.
In response, Mamata Banerjee has made serious allegations against the ED in her affidavit submitted to the court. She claims that during the searches at the Kolkata I-PAC offices, ED officials seized confidential data related to the Trinamool Congress and its electoral strategies. According to her, this action was not only illegal but also an intrusion into the democratic process.
Mamata Banerjee stated that upon learning about the searches at the I-PAC offices, where sensitive party data was stored, she rushed to the location. Her intention was solely to protect the party’s confidential materials from potential misuse. She clarified that she did not obstruct the ED’s actions in any way.
All parties will present their arguments during the next hearing on March 18. The court’s decision is highly anticipated, as this case has become a significant issue concerning the actions of investigative agencies and the rights of the state government.
