Supreme Court Appoints Former CJI DY Chandrachud as Mediator in Sanjay Kapoor Property Dispute

New Delhi, May 7: The property and family trust dispute following the death of late industrialist Sanjay Kapoor has reached a significant turning point. The Supreme Court has taken a major step to resolve this long-standing legal battle by appointing former Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, as a mediator.

All parties involved in the mediation process have given their consent. The Supreme Court emphasized that if the matter continued to be litigated in courts, it could take decades to resolve. Therefore, the court is urging the family to attempt to settle the dispute through dialogue and mutual understanding.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court issued strict instructions to all parties. The court mandated that no party should make statements to the media or post anything related to the case on social media. The next hearing is scheduled for August.

The dispute arose after Sanjay Kapoor’s death concerning his property, family trust, and inheritance. His mother, Rani Kapoor, filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the annulment of the family trust. She alleges that the trust was created without her knowledge and consent.

Rani Kapoor claims that the trust was an attempt to seize control of the family’s assets and inheritance. She has requested the court to maintain the status quo on property transfers and any sales until a final decision is reached.

In a previous hearing, the Supreme Court had also issued a notice to Sanjay Kapoor’s wife, Priya Kapoor. The court advised both parties to seek resolution through mediation.

This dispute also involves Karisma Kapoor and her children, Samaira Kapoor and Kiaan Kapoor. Karisma has filed a case regarding inheritance on behalf of her children. Meanwhile, Rani Kapoor asserts that she is the sole legal heir to the entire estate of her late husband, Dr. Surinder Kapoor. She claims that in 2017, several illegal transactions were made to transfer her assets into the family trust.

Rani Kapoor further alleged that during her health struggles, she was coerced into signing several documents, some of which were blank and signed without her full understanding. She accused her son Sanjay Kapoor and daughter-in-law Priya Kapoor of exploiting her illness to transfer property.

On the other hand, Priya Kapoor has denied these allegations and filed a defamation case against some family members. She claims there have been attempts to tarnish her image on social media and public platforms.
