Mumbai, October 11 (Udaipur Kiran) — Bollywood action star Suniel Shetty has approached the Bombay High Court seeking protection of his personality and image rights, alleging that his photos and videos are being misused by websites, business portals, and unauthorized platforms.

In his plea, Shetty stated that several online entities have been using his likeness without permission for advertisements and promotional activities, misleading the public into believing that he endorses certain brands. “My photos and videos are being used on unauthorized sites and for fake promotional content. Such misuse should be stopped immediately,” he urged in his petition.
Court Takes Matter Seriously
The case was heard by Justice Arif Doctor’s bench, which took the matter seriously and reserved its order, promising an early decision. Representing Shetty, Senior Advocate Birendra Saraf argued that the actor’s reputation and credibility in the industry were being compromised due to the misuse of his identity.
“Suniel Shetty is a respected and well-recognized face in Indian cinema. Several websites and business portals are using his image to promote their products, creating a false impression that he endorses them. This not only damages his public image but also misleads his fans,” Saraf told the court.
Privacy Breach Involving Granddaughter’s Photos
In a shocking revelation, Shetty highlighted that some websites had even created fake images featuring him and his infant granddaughter, Ivara, the daughter of Athiya Shetty and cricketer KL Rahul, born on March 24, 2025. He termed it a direct attack on his family’s privacy.
The actor requested the court to direct strict action against such portals and ensure that links carrying manipulated or unauthorized photos are immediately taken down. “It’s not necessary to shut down entire websites, but the wrongful use of my pictures must stop,” Shetty said.
Growing Concern Over Celebrity Image Misuse
Suniel Shetty joins a growing list of celebrities who have turned to the judiciary to safeguard their personality and image rights. Earlier, stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Karan Johar, and Asha Bhosle had filed similar cases to prevent unauthorized use of their photos, names, and digital likenesses.
The court’s verdict, expected soon, could set another important precedent in India’s ongoing legal battle against deepfake misuse and unauthorized celebrity endorsements.
