Ranchi, August 10: Students in Ranchi have entered the 17th day of their protest against alleged irregularities in recruitment exams and paper leaks. As part of their ongoing movement, they plan to surround the state assembly on Monday. Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto proclaimed, “Today is a day of revolution.”
In an interview with a news agency, Mahto stated, “Today marks the ninth day of my hunger strike, and I am feeling weak. I continue to provide updates, but my condition is deteriorating. The pain and suffering I feel are nothing compared to the anguish caused by the paper leak.”
Regarding the assembly siege, Mahto emphasized, “Today is a day of revolution. It represents months of our struggle.”
Mahto has been on a hunger strike since August 2, following an indefinite fast that began on July 25. His health has significantly declined over the past eight days. On Monday morning, doctors conducted a health check-up on him.
A doctor reported on Mahto’s condition, saying, “He is better today compared to Sunday. He was weak, his sugar levels had dropped, and he felt fatigued, so we administered a drip. His vital organs are currently stable, and he is feeling improved.”
Students have announced their plan to surround the assembly on August 10. Ahead of the proposed siege, a large number of students from various districts are arriving in Ranchi. They are gathering at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium.
One protesting student stated, “We are heading towards the assembly, and our peaceful protest will begin at 10 AM. Students are coming from far and wide. We will not stop until the government meets our demands. We are not intimidated by the government’s preparations. The sacrifices of all students on hunger strike will not be in vain. We will protest. I am joining this demonstration, and we will definitely go to the assembly because the government is not delivering justice.”
Another student added, “Today’s event was planned in advance. The assembly march and siege were organized beforehand. Students are gathering near the old assembly, and our march will start from there. Through your platform, I urge all students in Jharkhand to ensure that today’s march is entirely peaceful and constitutional.”
