Ranchi, August 10: Protests by students against alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations continue in Jharkhand. On Monday, students broke through the eighth barricade and advanced towards the state assembly.
To prevent their progress, police deployed water cannons. Despite this, a large group of demonstrators attempted to move forward. As the water cannons were activated, protesters chanted slogans rather than retreating, with many standing defiantly in the spray.
The scene was remarkable, with police and administration urging students to remain peaceful and refrain from advancing. Security measures have been tightened in the area, and drone cameras are monitoring the protesters’ activities.
After crossing the eighth barricade, the group of students split into smaller factions. Some continued to push forward while police worked to contain them. Tensions remained high between law enforcement and demonstrators. Earlier, students had breached the first barricade near the old assembly premises and continued to advance, breaking through several barriers.
Thousands of students from 24 districts, carrying flags, posters, and banners, marched towards the assembly. They are demanding the cancellation of the controversial 14th JPSC preliminary exam, reforms in the recruitment process, and a CBI investigation into the matter.
On Sunday, a third round of talks between the government and student representatives ended without resolution, prompting students to announce their assembly siege. By morning, crowds of students began gathering in various areas of Ranchi. Many arrived by buses, trains, and private vehicles from different districts, with a significant number spending the night at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, the BJP also staged a protest outside the Chief Minister‘s residence. Following a meeting led by former Chief Minister and opposition leader Babulal Marandi, BJP legislators and workers marched to the Chief Minister’s residence. During the demonstration around 9:45 AM, police detained several leaders and activists, including Babulal Marandi and state BJP president Aditya Sahu.
Extensive security arrangements have been made around the assembly and the Chief Minister’s residence. The administration is focused on preventing students from reaching the assembly complex, while the students remain resolute in their demands and continue to advance.
