Bhopal, August 10: Heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh has severely disrupted daily life. As a precaution, district authorities have decided to close schools in Bhopal, Dindori, and several other districts on Monday.
Since Sunday night, Bhopal has experienced intense rainfall, leading to flooding in various areas. Traffic was also affected when a tree fell on VIP Road in the morning.
In light of the weather conditions, the Bhopal district administration announced a holiday for all government, private, and aided schools affiliated with MPBSE, CBSE, ICSE, and other boards for students from nursery to 12th grade.
The administration stated, “Considering the heavy rainfall in the district, a holiday has been declared for all government, private, and aided schools in Bhopal for students from nursery to 12th grade on August 10.”
This announcement came after many students had already arrived at school before the holiday was declared and were sent back home later.
Amid concerns of heavy rain, overflowing reservoirs, and disrupted road connectivity, holidays were also announced for schools in Dindori and other districts.
The impact of the rain was felt in Raisen, Sehore, Vidisha, Shajapur, Shivpuri, Harda, and Shujalpur. The Ramleela ground in Raisen was flooded, while rivers and streams in Sehore and Shyamapur swelled due to the heavy downpour.
Shajapur recorded nearly four inches of rain in just six hours. The heavy rainfall that began around 3 AM in Shujalpur provided relief to farmers and traders.
Concerns are rising for low-lying areas and roads and bridges due to the intense rain, and officials are closely monitoring water levels.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather is influenced by a low-pressure area and associated cyclonic circulation, while the monsoon trough remains active.
The latest warning from the IMD for Monday indicates that very heavy rainfall is likely in some areas of western Madhya Pradesh, with possibilities of thunderstorms and lightning. An ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for Rajgarh, Vidisha, Sehore, Harda, and Dewas, where some areas may receive up to eight inches of rain within 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall is also expected in Ujjain, Agar-Malwa, Shajapur, Khandwa, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Pandhurna, Chhindwara, Narsinghpur, Sagar, Damoh, Jabalpur, Guna, Shivpuri, and Shyopur.
