
Mumbai, June 19: Union Minister Prahlad Joshi emphasized the need for a robust testing and certification infrastructure to protect consumer interests, enhance product reliability, and promote ease of doing business. Speaking during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the expansion of testing facilities at the National Testing Hub (NTH) in Mumbai, he stated that a strong quality assurance system plays a crucial role in ensuring product reliability and facilitating business operations.
Joshi highlighted that world-class testing infrastructure is a vital pillar of the government’s vision for a self-reliant India. He stressed the importance of strengthening the country’s quality system to improve the global competitiveness of Indian products and advance the self-reliant India initiative.
During his visit to the NTH facility in Mumbai, which marks a significant achievement in expanding the country’s quality assurance and testing infrastructure, the minister inaugurated a microbiological testing laboratory. The event began with a groundbreaking ceremony for the future expansion of testing facilities.
Joshi praised the efforts of the Department of Consumer Affairs and the National Testing Hub in expanding advanced testing capabilities nationwide, making quality testing services more accessible to industries and consumers. He also toured laboratories in Mumbai, engaging with scientists, technical experts, and officials to review ongoing modernization initiatives and testing capabilities.
Additionally, he virtually inaugurated the Northern Regional Center of the National Testing Hub in Ghaziabad and the NTH-Orik satellite center located in the Auric City of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The newly inaugurated facilities are expected to significantly enhance testing capacity in key sectors, strengthen compliance with national and international standards, and contribute to consumer safety and industrial competitiveness.
