New Delhi, June 20: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership on Friday. PM Modi has recently become the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India.
In an interview, Tharoor described Modi as a “powerful speaker” with clear and distinct ideas. He also expressed concerns about communal divides and the weakening of constitutional institutions.
“I believe we all agree that he possesses immense enthusiasm and energy, along with a distinct perspective. Whether you agree with that perspective or not, he articulates his views exceptionally well. He is indeed a powerful speaker, perhaps one of the finest we have seen in this country,” Tharoor stated.
He noted that Modi particularly resonates with those who speak his language. His national presence is quite impactful, and there is no doubt that he has left a mark on various aspects of Indian life, society, and politics.
Tharoor acknowledged that the development of India’s economy, especially infrastructure, is certainly one of Modi’s achievements. However, he also mentioned that there is still room for improvement.
He pointed out that there have been negative aspects during Modi’s tenure that cannot be overlooked. “We are concerned about the growing divisions, communal strife, and political statements promoted by the ruling party and its supporters, which unfortunately have alienated a significant portion of the population,” he said.
The Congress leader expressed that people in the southern part of the country are worried about the existence of federalism.
Tharoor highlighted that there are genuine concerns about how the independent and autonomous institutions of our democracy have been undermined over the past 12 years. “Personally, I think he (PM Modi) has done many things right, but there have also been numerous occurrences that are not beneficial for India,” he concluded.
