Shimla, 21 August (Kiran News). In Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, nature showed its fury early Wednesday morning as two earthquakes were felt within one hour, leaving local residents in fear. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first tremor struck at 3:27 am with a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale. Exactly one hour later, at 4:39 am, another stronger earthquake of 4.0 magnitude was recorded. No major damage has been reported, but people remain anxious.

First Tremor: Mild Vibration Wakes Residents
Though the first quake at 3:27 am was mild, it was enough to wake the people of Chamba from their sleep. NCS reported the epicentre at 32.87°N latitude and 76.09°E longitude, with a depth of 20 kilometres. Locals said the tremors were light but created an atmosphere of fear for some time.
Second Tremor: Stronger Shocks, People Rush Outdoors
Before people could recover from the first shock, a stronger tremor struck at 4:39 am, this time with a magnitude of 4.0. This quake was more powerful and forced many people in Chamba to come out of their homes. While there are no reports of major damage, the administration and disaster management teams remain alert.
Natural Disasters Continue to Affect Himachal
These earthquake tremors have refreshed memories of recent natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh. Recently, a cloudburst in Kullu’s Lagghati area caused heavy destruction. Deputy Commissioner Torul S. Ravish said that the road near Bhootnath Bridge was damaged, Hanumani Bagh bridge was swept away, and a cremation ground was also affected. Additionally, two shops, two vegetable stalls, and one house were hit by the disaster. The Ropari Bhootthi Bridge also suffered damage.
