
Accra, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met with his Ghanaian counterpart, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in Accra on October 7. The two leaders engaged in discussions aimed at advancing the comprehensive partnership between India and Ghana.
They focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, development assistance, pharmaceuticals, capacity building, defense, and technology. Both leaders emphasized their historical unity and shared aspirations for development as partners in the ‘Global South.’
Jaishankar took to social media to share insights from their meeting, stating, “Had a comprehensive discussion with Ghana’s Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. As partners in the ‘Global South,’ India and Ghana share common aspirations for development and historical solidarity. We discussed advancing our partnership in trade, investment, development, pharmaceuticals, capacity building, defense, technology, and people-to-people connections. We also talked about enhancing multilateral cooperation and deepening India’s engagement with the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).”
Jaishankar arrived in Ghana on Tuesday, and India is optimistic that this visit will foster meaningful dialogue to strengthen ties between New Delhi and Accra. He expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received from Ablakwa, stating, “Happy to be in Accra, Ghana. Grateful for the warm welcome extended by Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Looking forward to meaningful discussions to advance our comprehensive partnership.”
Earlier, Ghana’s Foreign Ministry noted that Jaishankar’s visit would provide an opportunity to reinforce the bond of solidarity and shared values between the two nations. The ministry stated, “Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will undertake an official visit to Ghana from October 6 to 7 at the invitation of Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Ghana is eager to host Jaishankar during this historic visit, which will allow both countries to strengthen their unbreakable bond of solidarity and shared values.”
During his visit, discussions will also focus on enhancing pharmaceutical development under President John Dramani Mahama’s “Accra Reset” policy, deepening agricultural cooperation in mechanization and value addition, and supporting Mahama’s agenda for industrialization and job creation, as well as expanding scholarship and IT partnerships.
Following his visit to Ghana, Jaishankar will continue his five-day official tour to Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia, aiming to further strengthen India’s bilateral partnerships with these three African nations.
