India Sets Human-Centric Agenda for 18th BRICS Summit Amid Concerns Over Chinas Economy

New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, former BRICS sherpas gathered for a second session of discussions about the future of BRICS and India’s pivotal role. Dammu Ravi, a former secretary and ambassador, emphasized that the 18th BRICS summit will focus on a human-centric, people-first agenda. This theme will prioritize resilience, innovation, and sustainability.

Professor Sanjay Bhattacharya pointed out that while China grapples with structural weaknesses leading to a slowing economy, India is emerging as a bright star within BRICS, showcasing strong growth.

Ravi noted, “As envisioned by the Prime Minister, the priority for BRICS should be human-centric and people-first. This will be a broad theme for India, revolving around resilience, creativity, innovation, and sustainability.” He believes that the summit presents a significant opportunity for India to shape an agenda centered on this theme. The gathering of leaders from various BRICS nations is expected to be a notable success.

Additionally, Bhattacharya, a professor at O.P. Jindal Global University and former BRICS sherpa, remarked on the contributions individual member countries can make to the BRICS movement. He acknowledged China’s influential role in the development of BRICS but noted the current decline of its economy due to structural issues. “India, with its robust economic growth and capacity to maintain momentum, may well be the emerging star of BRICS,” he stated.

He also highlighted a narrative linking BRICS participation to the diminishing importance of the dollar in global trade and financial transactions, suggesting a shift in how BRICS nations engage with the global economy.
