
New Delhi, April 2: India’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr. Adarsh Swain, recently held significant high-level meetings in Nairobi. He discussed collaboration in diplomatic training and capacity building with the Director General of the Foreign Service Academy, Patrick Wamoto. Additionally, he met with the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, Honorable Justice Martha Koome.
During his meeting with Patrick Wamoto, the focus was on enhancing cooperation in diplomatic training. This includes collaboration between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service, Ministry of External Affairs, India, and the Academy for sharing best practices and capacity building.
Furthermore, Dr. Swain engaged with Honorable Chief Justice Martha Koome, who praised the ongoing exchanges between the judiciaries of both nations. These exchanges include her visits to India in 2023 and 2025. She referenced Indian case law and jurisprudence in her decisions and discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation in judicial best practices, knowledge sharing, and capacity building.
The High Commissioner expressed admiration for the strong legacy of Indian-origin jurists in Kenya, including Honorable Justices Chunnilal Madaan and Abdul Majid Cocker, who have held the esteemed position of Chief Justice, reflecting the robust and enduring ties between the two nations.
Dr. Adarsh Swain assumed his role as High Commissioner to Kenya and Permanent Representative to UNEP and UN-Habitat on October 2, 2025. He previously served as India’s Ambassador to Kuwait from December 2022 to September 2025 and as Deputy High Commissioner in Bangladesh from 2015 to 2019. His other foreign postings include Moscow (2004-2006), Sofia (2006-2009), and Beijing (2009-2012).
During his tenure as Director/Deputy Secretary at the United Nations Economic and Social Division in New Delhi, he represented India in various UN/multilateral conferences and negotiations, contributing to the post-2015 development agenda/SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement negotiations.
