S. Jaishankars Visit to Mongolia: Engaging Discussions with President and Speaker on Regional and Global Issues

Ulaanbaatar, June 23: India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in meaningful discussions with his counterpart B. Battsetseg and President Khurelsukh Ukhna during his two-day visit to Mongolia from June 22 to 23, 2026. This visit was made at the invitation of Battsetseg.

The Ministry of External Affairs released a statement on Tuesday detailing the key highlights of the trip. During his visit, Jaishankar held extensive talks with Mongolia’s Foreign Minister and Chief of the Cabinet Secretariat B. Enkhbayar. He also paid a courtesy visit to President Khurelsukh Ukhna, as well as meeting with the Speaker of Parliament S. Byambatsogt and Education Minister L. Enkh-Amgalan.

Both sides reviewed the progress in bilateral relations since the Mongolian President’s visit to India in October 2025 and discussed ways to further strengthen the India-Mongolia strategic partnership.

The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including development partnerships, trade, education, culture, capacity building, supply chains, mining and critical minerals, defense, air connectivity, and people-to-people relations. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues.

Jaishankar visited the site of the oil refinery project in Altanshiree (Dornogovi province), which is being developed with India’s assistance, where he was briefed on the project’s progress. This visit was conducted alongside Mongolia’s Foreign Minister and Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Gongor Damdinyam.

On social media platform X, Jaishankar wrote, “Visited the construction site of the Mongolian refinery project with Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh and Minister of Industry and Mining Gongor Damdinyam. This landmark India-Mongolia friendship project is progressing steadily. Reviewed the status of ongoing work with various teams involved.”

Additionally, he visited the Gandantegchinlen Monastery in Ulaanbaatar, a site of cultural and spiritual significance. He expressed his sentiments on X, stating, “Paid my respects at the historic Gandan Monastery in Ulaanbaatar. This monastery symbolizes the special and spiritual ties between India and Mongolia.”

He was pleased to see the digitization of Buddhist manuscripts with India’s assistance and wrote, “Delighted to witness the project on digitizing one million Buddhist manuscripts under the India-Mongolia partnership. India remains committed to providing continuous support to this monastery.”
