New Delhi, May 4: Takaaki Kobayashi, Chairperson of the Policy Research Council of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), concluded his visit to India with a meeting with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Monday.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared on the social media platform ‘X’ that both parties reaffirmed the strategic importance of India-Japan relations and agreed to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Earlier in the day, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with the Japanese delegation to discuss strengthening trade and investment ties.
Goyal posted on ‘X’, stating, “I had a meeting with the delegation led by Takaaki Kobayashi, Chairperson of the Policy Research Council of Japan’s ruling party, LDP.”
He highlighted discussions focused on enhancing economic relations between India and Japan, increasing partnerships among MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises), and boosting collaboration in sectors such as automobiles, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, and advanced manufacturing.
Goyal also emphasized the need to increase exports from India and improve market access. He assured that India is committed to enhancing the business environment and will work on future pathways under the CEPA and the Indo-Pacific economic framework.
On Sunday, BJP National President Nitin Nabin also had a “good and useful” conversation with Kobayashi and the Japanese delegation.
During this meeting, both parties stressed the importance of increasing dialogue and learning from each other’s experiences. Nabin reiterated their shared commitment to strengthening India-Japan relations.
After the meeting, Kobayashi wrote on his ‘X’ account, “Japan and India are not just large countries; they are rich civilizations with a long history. Strengthening the relationship between our two nations through security, economic and industrial investment, and increased people-to-people contact is essential for stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. We agreed to enhance party-to-party cooperation with BJP President Nitin Nabin in this direction.”
As global supply chains shift and companies seek new investment options outside China, India has emerged as a strong investment destination for the long term. Particularly, Japan’s mid-sized companies could experience significant growth by collaborating with Indian MSMEs.
