Sridhar Vembu Calls for Re-Elections in Tamil Nadu, Advocates Strict Cash-Free Voting

New Delhi, May 7: Tamil Nadu’s political landscape is currently at a fascinating juncture. Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilga Vetrikazhagam (TVK), made a remarkable showing in the assembly elections. However, they fell short of a majority by a few seats, leaving the formation of the government in suspense. Amidst this, Sridhar Vembu, co-founder and chief scientist of Zoho, has demanded re-elections in Tamil Nadu.

In a post on his social media account X, Vembu stated, “The numbers do not seem to align. Any government formed through backdoor dealings is likely to be unstable due to various pressures and conflicts. Tamil Nadu deserves better.”

He suggested that imposing President’s rule and conducting new elections might be the best course of action. Vembu emphasized the need for strict enforcement of the “no cash for votes” rule, stating, “Only then will we know who truly holds the mandate.”

Vembu expressed confidence that Vijay would return to power with a significant majority. He added, “If DMK and AIADMK want to prevent this, they should contest together. The BJP should fight the elections alone, even if they win no seats. This is the right time for the BJP to make a fresh start in Tamil Nadu. Let the people decide once again.”

In the recent assembly elections, Vijay’s TVK surprised many by winning 108 seats. However, a total of 118 seats are needed for a majority, leaving the party 10 seats short. Vijay is actively seeking support from other parties to form the government.

Sources indicate that TVK has reached out to Congress, VCK, CPI, and CPM for support. Congress, which holds five seats, has signaled its willingness to back Vijay. Additionally, TVK leaders have met with AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami. The party has also contacted its ally PMK, which holds four seats.

Meanwhile, Vijay met with Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar on Wednesday to present his claim to form the government. However, no final decision has been made by the Governor regarding the formation of the government.
