SP Leader Claims Growing Support Ahead of UP Elections, Criticizes BJPs Tactics

Lucknow, August 23: Ravidas Mehrotra, a legislator from the Samajwadi Party, has made a bold assertion regarding the upcoming 2027 assembly elections. He claims that a favorable atmosphere is developing for the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, as the public seeks change. Mehrotra accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of creating divisions among Dalits, backward classes, and upper castes to distract voters from pressing issues.

He stated that the BJP government is attempting to shift public attention away from inflation, unemployment, and other fundamental problems by fostering social conflict. According to Mehrotra, the BJP aims to incite disputes among different social groups before the elections, preventing the public from questioning the core issues. He labeled this as a deliberate attempt to mislead the electorate.

Responding to Akhilesh Yadav‘s comments regarding Jayant Chaudhary, Mehrotra noted that the seats won by smaller parties in the 2022 assembly elections were a result of the wave in favor of the Samajwadi Party. He mentioned that the Rashtriya Lok Dal secured eight seats, leading to its eight legislators. Mehrotra pointed out that Jayant Chaudhary later reached the Rajya Sabha with the support of Samajwadi Party legislators.

He accused Chaudhary of abandoning the alliance to support the BJP, emphasizing that coalition partners should honor their commitments for a full five years. If Chaudhary had confidence in his popularity after leaving the Samajwadi Party, he should have contested elections among the public. Mehrotra also urged Chaudhary to revisit the political philosophies of his father and grandfather, Chaudhary Charan Singh.

In response to Mayawati’s demand for an apology following Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks, Mehrotra countered by accusing the Bahujan Samaj Party of becoming the BJP’s “B-team.” He claimed that the BSP raises issues aligned with BJP interests. However, he acknowledged Chaudhary Charan Singh as his leader and stressed the importance of respecting his family’s political contributions.

Mehrotra also addressed the rising sugar prices, asserting that a significant portion of sugarcane is being diverted for ethanol production, impacting sugar availability. He noted that this has led to increased prices, directly affecting the common people’s finances.
