
Balaghat, August 22: Madhya Pradesh‘s Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister, Rajendra Shukla, visited Machhurdha village in Balaghat district on Saturday. He met with families of sick Baiga tribal children and assured them of all possible assistance from the state government.
Shukla toured the village in the Birsa development block, engaging with affected families to understand their health conditions and other challenges. He emphasized that the government stands with these families and will provide necessary support. He reiterated the state’s commitment to assist Baiga families impacted by illness.
During his visit, Shukla urged Baiga families to participate in the special vaccination campaign being conducted in the affected villages. He stressed the importance of vaccination in protecting children from infectious diseases. He also encouraged parents to send their children to school regularly, highlighting that education will enhance their future prospects.
In his discussions, Shukla underscored the significance of nutrition and hygiene. He advised families to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and ensure that children receive nutritious food. He directed officials to arrange for a nurse-midwife at the Machhurdha sub-health center to provide basic healthcare services locally.
Shukla announced the transfer of the district vaccination officer in Balaghat and the removal of the district malaria officer from their position. He stated that an investigation into the deaths of Baiga children will be conducted, and action will be taken against officials if negligence is found. He also mentioned that a special campaign will be launched to raise awareness about health and other critical issues among Baiga tribal families.
He reported that anti-malaria spray is being conducted in 38 villages of the Birsa region, and door-to-door surveys are being carried out to identify sick individuals. Those found ill are being tested and treated, alongside a special vaccination campaign. Shukla stated that the health department will increase staff in remote and inaccessible areas.
Furthermore, he mentioned plans to discuss nutritional arrangements for Baiga children with officials from the Women and Child Development Department in Bhopal, aiming to strengthen services at local Anganwadi centers.
