New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : South Africa’s cricket team is gearing up for a challenging tour as they prepare to face Australia in a series comprising three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Test matches. The first ODI is set to take place on September 24, followed by matches on September 27 and September 30.
However, the team is currently facing setbacks due to injuries. Fast bowler Otniel Bartman has sustained an injury while playing a domestic red-ball match, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming ODI series. As of now, there are no clear updates on the extent of Bartman’s injury, which could significantly impact South Africa’s performance if he is unable to recover in time.
The situation is further complicated by the absence of Kagiso Rabada, who is already ruled out of the series, and reports of another injury concerning Lungi Ngidi. This combination of setbacks has heightened South Africa’s worries as they approach the series.
There is currently no estimated timeline for Rabada’s recovery, with a decision on his availability for the three-Test match series starting on October 9 yet to be made.
Bartman, a 33-year-old right-arm fast bowler, has played six ODIs and 21 T20s for South Africa, although he has yet to debut in Test cricket. In ODIs, he has taken eight wickets, while in T20s, he has claimed 29.
Despite these challenges, Temba Bavuma is making a return and will lead the South African side against Australia.
The squad for the ODI series includes: Temba Bavuma (captain), Otniel Bartman, Corbin Bosch, Matthew Britzke, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Tony de Zorzi, Bjorn Fortuin, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Quena Mofaka, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs.
