Tirupati, August 30: Rajeev Shukla, the Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), stated that the Indian team management is currently providing ample opportunities for young players.
During his visit to the Tirumala Temple in Andhra Pradesh, Shukla spoke to reporters about the future matches of the ‘Men in Blue,’ including the crucial Test series against New Zealand and Australia. He expressed confidence that India will clinch the title at the 2027 ODI World Cup, emphasizing that young players are being given a chance to perform on the international stage.
On Sunday, Shukla remarked, “The Test series between India and Sri Lanka has just concluded. Now, we have Test series against Australia and New Zealand ahead.”
He is optimistic that the Indian team will win the ODI World Cup 2027, which will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Players are excited to perform well in this major tournament. He stated, “We will win the World Cup. We are prepared; the players are full of enthusiasm.”
When asked how the Indian team is preparing young players, Shukla replied, “We are giving chances to new players. More and more young players are being given opportunities. This was evident in the Colombo Test, where Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain played.”
In the Colombo Test, which ended in a draw, off-spin all-rounder Saransh Jain made his debut and took three wickets across both innings. Suthar also had an impressive performance during the Sri Lanka tour, claiming a total of 16 wickets in two Test matches. He made his Test debut in June against Afghanistan.
After the draw in the Colombo Test, India won the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka 1-0. With hopes of reaching the WTC final, they have two crucial matches against New Zealand at home and a five-match home series against Australia.
