Sopore, May 12: The Sopore Police are actively engaged in a 100-day anti-drug campaign that began on April 11. This initiative aims to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the region. The police have been conducting continuous anti-drug operations, awareness programs, and enforcement actions to address this pressing issue.

So far, the Sopore Police have registered 22 FIRs under the NDPS Act and arrested 23 drug traffickers involved in drug-related activities.

During various operations, the police have seized over 5 kilograms of narcotics, along with thousands of psychotropic capsules, tablets, and 21 bottles of codeine syrup, valued at over 4 million rupees in the market.

Additionally, cases have been filed against seven habitual drug offenders under the PIT NDPS Act, and they have been relocated to jails outside the Kashmir Valley. The police have also initiated action against 170 suspected individuals involved in drug activities across the district.

To dismantle the drug supply network, Sopore Police have conducted eight hotspot-based anti-drug operations and executed 41 raids on suspected drug trafficking locations.

The police inspected medical stores and pharmacies throughout the district. They examined 257 drug outlets, resulting in the identification of 20 violations under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and related regulations. Consequently, 11 medical stores were sealed, and several shopkeepers had their licenses suspended or revoked by the drug control department.

Strict measures have also been taken against illegal drug cultivation. Joint operations with the excise, agriculture, and revenue departments have led to the destruction of illegal opium cultivation at five locations, with four FIRs filed under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
