Son Murders Father Over Land Dispute in Dhanbad, One Arrested

Dhanbad, June 15: In a shocking incident in the Mahuda police station area of Dhanbad district, Jharkhand, a man, along with his friends, has allegedly murdered his father over a land dispute and concealed the body in a bush. The police have arrested one suspect within 12 hours of discovering the body, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.

Ajit Kumar Vimal, the SDPO of Baghmara, reported on Monday that the body of Halim Sheikh, a resident of Bhurungia Basti, was found in the Kulthand forest area on Sunday. Following this, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a technical team were formed to investigate the case. During the inquiry, police arrested Shahbaz Sheikh, a resident of Mathatand.

Investigations revealed that Halim Sheikh was lured to the forest under false pretenses. According to the police, the assailants, who were lying in wait, slit his throat with a sharp weapon and hid the body in the bushes. The police were alerted by local villagers and arrived at the scene to recover the body. Identification was made using a mobile phone and Aadhaar card found on the deceased. The police have indicated that the primary motive behind the murder was a land dispute.

Family members stated that Halim Sheikh wanted to divide his property equally among his three sons, while his middle son, Mohammad Ishtiyaq, aimed to claim the entire land for himself. This issue had led to a prolonged family feud, with several village council meetings held to resolve it. The deceased’s wife, Najbun Nisha, alleged that their son had been threatening his father repeatedly. Halim Sheikh was reportedly distressed over this dispute and had expressed fears of an impending tragedy. The police confirmed that they have identified other suspects involved in the case and will arrest them soon.
