Lucknow, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Political tensions are escalating in Lucknow following the murder of businessman Vinod Kumar Sahani. Ravidas Mehrotra, a legislator from the Samajwadi Party (SP), has accused the ruling government of Uttar Pradesh of fostering an environment of lawlessness and has demanded a judicial investigation into the incident.
Mehrotra criticized the Yogi Adityanath administration, stating that Sahani, a prominent trader leader, was shot in broad daylight in Gonda. In response to the murder, protests erupted in Lucknow, with the SP calling for a thorough judicial inquiry and strict action against those responsible.
“The incident has made it clear that a reign of terror exists in the state,” Mehrotra asserted. “Criminals are operating without fear, merchants are being robbed, and even murdered. The rule of law has vanished, and the public’s trust in the BJP government has eroded. Our protests will continue until the real culprits are apprehended.”
In response to comments made by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati regarding the SP, Mehrotra claimed that the BSP is acting as the BJP’s second team and constantly opposing the SP. He noted that the BSP’s voter base has dwindled, with no MPs or MLAs remaining, and that their support has shifted to the SP.
He also highlighted a recent incident in Saharanpur, where a 115-year-old mosque was reportedly demolished by the BJP government under cover of darkness. The matter has since reached the High Court, which has halted all further actions and scheduled the next hearing for October 12. Mehrotra expressed confidence that the court would issue strict orders against the government and hold officials accountable.
Furthermore, Mehrotra condemned the BJP government for blocking a planned rally by SP national president Akhilesh Yadav in Bulandshahr. He claimed that despite prior applications for permission, the local administration, under BJP orders, denied landing clearance for the rally’s helicopter, leading to its cancellation.
Tensions remain high as the SP continues to voice its concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
