Noida, March 19: A sudden change in weather on Wednesday evening brought relief to the entire NCR region. Strong winds, dust storms, and light to moderate rain have led to a notable decrease in air pollution levels. The Air Quality Index (AQI), which had been in the poor category for several days, has now improved to the yellow zone, indicating a ‘moderate’ level of pollution.
According to the meteorological department, similar weather conditions are expected on March 19 and 20. The department has issued warnings for thunderstorms, rain, and winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h on both days.
The Indian Meteorological Department’s local forecast predicts a maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 19 degrees Celsius for March 19. On March 20, the maximum temperature may drop to 27 degrees, with a minimum of 17 degrees. Light rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, is expected throughout the day and night on both days.
The seven-day forecast indicates that partial cloud cover will persist on March 19 and 20, with occasional rain or thunderstorms. The weather is expected to clear partially on March 21 and 22, while March 23 and 24 are anticipated to be mostly clear. Following the rain, there has been an improvement in pollution levels.
In various areas of Delhi, the AQI has been recorded in the moderate range. Anand Vihar reported an AQI of 140, Ashok Vihar at 148, Chandni Chowk at 171, and Bawana at 162. Similarly, in Noida, Sector 1 recorded an AQI of 196, Sector 125 at 181, Sector 116 at 172, and Sector 62 at 150. In Ghaziabad, Indirapuram had an AQI of 169, Loni at 191, Vasundhara at 168, and Sanjay Nagar at 143.
Experts suggest that the strong winds and rain have caused dust and pollutant particles in the atmosphere to settle on the ground, resulting in cleaner air. However, this relief may be temporary. If the weather becomes dry again, pollution levels could rise once more.
