Varanasi, March 19: This year, the Indian New Year, Vikram Samvat 2083, was celebrated with great reverence and enthusiasm in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. On this occasion, Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati inaugurated the ‘Sanatan Panchang’ and extended New Year greetings to all citizens.
In the early morning at the Shankaracharya Ghat in Kashi, the rising sun was welcomed with Vedic chants, marking a spiritually uplifting and positive start to the new year.
Swami Avimukteshwaranand remarked that this new year is known as the ‘Raudra’ Samvatsar. He explained that according to scriptures, rulers may exhibit some harshness during this year. However, there is a positive aspect as well; the king of this year is ‘Guru,’ since the year begins on a Thursday. Scriptures suggest that when the king is Guru, the rains are plentiful, animals, especially cows, remain happy, and religious activities in society increase.
He also mentioned that this year would foster a celebratory atmosphere among the people. Despite potential challenges, the general public will strive and ultimately emerge victorious and prosperous. This conveys a message of hope and positivity, indicating that society will progress despite difficulties.
Additionally, Swami Avimukteshwaranand declared this year as the ‘Gavishthi Samvatsar,’ emphasizing efforts for the protection of cows. He stated that this is not merely a resolution but a goal to be achieved this year.
He highlighted that previous resolutions, such as the protection of the Ganges and cows, have seen significant success, and now there is a need to move forward with even greater determination.
