Siddaramaiah Faces Criticism as Karnataka BJP Claims He is Set to Resign

Bengaluru, March 14: The Karnataka BJP has mocked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, claiming he has become the ‘outgoing chief minister’ and is preparing to resign from his position.

During a media interaction at the BJP’s state office, Jagannath Bhavan, opposition leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy stated that Siddaramaiah has spent his entire life in politics, often asserting that he will remain in public life as long as he breathes.

Narayanaswamy questioned, “Politics has been his life, but what has he given to the people of this state who have granted him a political career?” He referenced Siddaramaiah’s recent comments asking for blessings for his son, Congress MLC Yatindra, suggesting that the chief minister is laying the groundwork for his son’s political future.

He remarked, “Now that Siddaramaiah’s own political career is nearing its end, he is appealing to the public to bless his son. Instead of speaking for his son, he should be addressing the people of the state. These words come from a leader in the twilight of his political life.”

Narayanaswamy noted that with the Rajya Sabha elections approaching, Siddaramaiah could soon lose his position. He accused Siddaramaiah of previously stating he would remain chief minister for five years, but now lacks the courage to reaffirm that claim, instead making philosophical statements. “He is pleading that his time is over and that people should protect his son. He will resign soon,” he asserted.

He also criticized Siddaramaiah’s claim of surpassing former Chief Minister Devaraj Urs’s records, stating, “He may have presented more budgets than Urs, but he cannot match Urs’s contributions to the state. Presenting 17 budgets may be his record, but the people of this state have gained nothing from it.”

When asked who could succeed Siddaramaiah if he resigns, Narayanaswamy said that decision lies with the Congress party. However, he alleged that the party would not appoint a Dalit leader as chief minister.

He claimed, “Dalit leaders have repeatedly been denied justice. Even after so many years of independence, Dalits are merely used as a vote bank. Siddaramaiah has refused to provide any opportunity for a Dalit to become chief minister.”

Narayanaswamy accused Siddaramaiah of being anti-Dalit, alleging that funds allocated for Scheduled Castes under the SCSP/TSP schemes were diverted to finance government guarantee schemes.

He stated, “The law specifies that SCSP/TSP funds should only be used for Dalits. Siddaramaiah has misused these funds for guarantees. Even some of his party’s MLAs opposed this, yet ₹15,000 crores were misappropriated. He has also failed to implement internal reservations properly, leading to further issues.”

Additionally, Narayanaswamy urged the state government to take action against an advertisement by Flipkart, which claims to sell one liter of milk for ₹1. He noted that such ads have incited anger among farmers.

He said, “No one should create problems for farmers. Such advertisements may be shown as a marketing strategy for a day, but milk cannot be sold for ₹1 per liter every day. These ads mislead consumers and harm farmers. The government must take strict action against such misleading promotions.”
