
Dushanbe, April 2: Siby George, Secretary (West) of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, met with Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, on Wednesday. The discussions focused on the bilateral relations between the two nations, as well as regional and global issues.
During his visit to Dushanbe, Siby George co-chaired the fifth round of the India-Tajikistan Foreign Office Consultations with Tajikistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Idibek Kalandar.
Both sides reviewed bilateral relations covering areas of mutual interest, including trade and economic ties, science and technology, fintech, pharmaceuticals, culture, and people-to-people connections.
Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Secretary (West) Siby George met with Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin. They reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.”
He further noted, “The fifth round of the India-Tajikistan Foreign Office Consultations was also held in Dushanbe, co-chaired by Secretary (West) and Deputy Foreign Minister Idibek Kalandar. They conducted a comprehensive review of current bilateral relations, including trade and economic ties, science and technology, fintech, pharmaceuticals, culture, and people-to-people connections.”
In August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China.
Following their meeting, PM Modi expressed on ‘X’, “It is always a pleasure to converse with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan. India’s trade and cultural relations are continuously growing, which is a very positive sign.”
India and Tajikistan have traditionally enjoyed close and cordial relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, regular high-level visits between the two countries have further strengthened these bilateral relations.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the deep historical and cultural ties have played a significant role in expanding and broadening this relationship to a new level. Cooperation between India and Tajikistan encompasses all aspects of humanitarian efforts, with a particular emphasis on military and defense relations.
