Chennai, June 21: The ‘Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK), led by Chief Minister Vijay, has surpassed two million members. This milestone reflects the party’s remarkable growth since its launch just over two years ago, as reported by party sources on Saturday.
Party officials and supporters celebrated this achievement on social media, highlighting it as evidence of TVK’s increasing acceptance among the people of Tamil Nadu.
This accomplishment comes just a month after the party formed its first government following a historic victory in the 2026 assembly elections.
Launched in February 2024 by actor-turned-politician Vijay, TVK has rapidly expanded its organizational presence across Tamil Nadu through aggressive membership drives and grassroots engagement initiatives.
The party has focused on strengthening its booth-level infrastructure while also conducting district-wise enrollment campaigns, outreach to youth, and public relations programs to build a statewide support base.
The membership campaign gained momentum ahead of the assembly elections, with thousands of volunteers and local organizers tasked with enhancing the party’s reach in both urban and rural areas.
Party leaders have consistently portrayed TVK as a people-centric movement committed to providing alternatives to the state’s traditional political parties.
This rapid organizational growth translated into electoral success in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. In its first electoral contest, TVK emerged as the largest political force in the state, winning 108 seats and securing 34.92 percent of the vote.
This result signifies a significant shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, as Vijay’s party defeated both the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), ending decades of political dominance by these two major Dravidian parties.
Vijay took the oath of office as Chief Minister on May 10, assuming charge of the government with the support of coalition allies.
Party leaders stated that surpassing the two million member mark reflects TVK’s robust grassroots network and the enthusiasm generated by its emergence as a ruling power. They believe that the growing membership will aid the party in further strengthening its organization and enhancing its connection with the people across Tamil Nadu, as it seeks to solidify its position in state politics.
