Kanpur, June 21: A shocking incident has emerged from the Friends Colony area in Kanpur’s Chakeri police jurisdiction. On Sunday evening, three Rottweilers attacked a 55-year-old woman. Reports indicate that these dogs belong to the brother of a local Congress leader. The woman sustained 13 severe wounds, classified by doctors as Grade-3 dog bites. After receiving initial treatment, she was referred to Halat Hospital, where her condition remains critical.
The attack occurred when Geeta was in the area for the first time to prepare meals and perform household chores. While on her way, she was suddenly attacked by the dogs. The woman panicked and began to scream for help. Hearing her cries, a gig worker nearby bravely attempted to fend off the dogs by throwing bricks and stones. Children playing in the park also rushed to the scene with cricket bats and sticks to drive the dogs away.
Local women noted that if help had not arrived in time, the situation could have been far worse. After the incident, Geeta’s daughters, Bobby and Tejaswi, took her to the hospital on a scooter. Geeta’s husband, Jyoti Prakash, works for a private company. Witness and local resident Seema Dixit reported that when she arrived at the scene, the victim was bleeding profusely, and her clothes were torn from the attack.
She immediately covered Geeta with her dupatta and coordinated with others to ensure she received urgent medical attention. Local resident Ratan Gupta expressed concerns about the long-standing insecurity caused by these dogs in the area, stating that children are afraid to go to the park. He also mentioned that about four to six months ago, the same dogs had attacked a five-year-old girl. Gupta accused the owners of frequently allowing the dogs to roam freely in public spaces, posing a threat to passersby.
