Mumbai, June 21: Political tensions in Maharashtra are escalating as BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban criticizes Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Sanjay Raut and Uddhav Thackeray. Following Raut’s recent posts on X and Thackeray’s comments about resigning, Ban has urged opposition leaders to cease their rhetoric.
Ban emphasized that the people of Maharashtra have repeatedly made their choices clear in elections. He accused Raut of making personal attacks on political opponents daily, using offensive language, and contributing to a toxic political atmosphere. “The public has already decided who is behaving irresponsibly and who is addressing their issues correctly,” he stated.
He further claimed that Raut is more focused on targeting political rivals than protecting the interests of his own party and allies. This behavior is not well-received by the electorate, which has been reflected in the outcomes of recent elections. The citizens of Maharashtra have sent a clear message through democratic processes, rejecting such politics across various elections, including Lok Sabha, Assembly, and local body polls. Ban insisted that Raut should stop his theatrics and statements.
Regarding Thackeray’s resignation remarks, Ban pointed out that Thackeray has made similar declarations in the past but later retracted them. He recalled that Thackeray once stated he would resign from his legislative position but remained in office for years. He also noted Thackeray’s previous commitment to never ally with Congress, which he later contradicted by forming a coalition with them. Ban expressed skepticism about Thackeray’s current resignation claims, suggesting he might again reverse his decision, citing public demand as a reason to stay in office.
Ban concluded by asserting that the public has made it clear that Thackeray has failed to advance Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideology or lead the party in the expected direction. He believes that the people of Maharashtra have effectively sidelined him and anticipates another U-turn on the resignation issue.
