Navi Mumbai, August 11: In a shocking incident in the Juhu village of Navi Mumbai’s Vashi area, a man has been arrested for brutally murdering his elderly mother. Mahesh Ratnakar Kadam, 42, is accused of strangling his 65-year-old mother, Manda Ratnakar Kadam, and repeatedly slamming her head against the ground. This horrific event took place on the evening of August 9, leaving the local community in disbelief.
According to Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chandekar, the accused was extremely angry with his mother because she did not allow his wife to live with them. Mahesh believed that his mother was paying too much attention to his sister, Rupali Devalekar’s family. In a fit of rage stemming from this family dispute, he used a piece of cloth to strangle his mother and then violently struck her head on the ground, resulting in her death at the scene.
Following the incident, a complaint was filed by the victim’s son-in-law, Mangesh Kashinath Devalekar, at the Vashi police station. The police acted swiftly, apprehending Mahesh Kadam shortly after the crime. The court has remanded him to police custody until August 13 as the investigation continues.
Police reports indicate that Mahesh remained at the crime scene and began shouting after the incident. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the house and notified the police. A team from the Vashi police station arrived promptly and took Manda Kadam’s body into custody.
Inspector Shashikant Chandekar stated, “Based on the information received, we reached the scene and arrested the accused. A case has been registered against him under Section 103(1) of the Indian Penal Code.”
This incident follows a similar case on July 29, where a 60-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her son in the Maidan Garhi area of South Delhi after she refused to give him money for alcohol. The accused, Amod Pandit, was also arrested by the police.
