India and Thailand Discuss Enhanced Cooperation to Combat Online Scams

Bangkok, August 10: Indian Ambassador Punit Agrawal met with Thailand’s Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, on Monday. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation to tackle online scams and integrating the digital ecosystem for the benefit of tourists.

The Indian Embassy in Thailand shared on the social media platform X, “Ambassador Punit Agrawal had a courtesy meeting today with Thailand’s Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn.”

The embassy noted that discussions included enhancing collaboration under the existing bilateral agreement on digital technologies, sharing experiences to combat online scams, and integrating the digital ecosystem to facilitate tourism.

Last month, Ambassador Agrawal also met with Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Siphandone Ratchakitprakarn. They discussed strengthening strategic partnerships by enhancing maritime, air, and road connectivity, deepening people-to-people relations, and promoting tourism.

In April last year, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangkok, India and Thailand elevated their relations to a strategic partnership.

Earlier, on July 16, Ambassador Agrawal met with Urasak Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the South Asian, Middle East, and African Affairs Department at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The embassy stated, “Ambassador Punit Agrawal exchanged views on several mutual interests, including high-level visits, trade and investment, people-to-people connections, public health, and traditional medicine, to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Thailand.”

Ambassador Agrawal also met with Thailand’s trade representative, Chutinthorn Gongsakdi, at the Government House, where they discussed strengthening trade and investment relations.

The Indian Embassy in Thailand remarked on X, “Ambassador Punit Agrawal had a productive meeting with Thailand’s trade representative, Chutinthorn Gongsakdi, at the Government House. The discussions focused on strengthening trade and investment relations between India and Thailand, identifying complementary areas, resolving tariff and non-tariff barriers, and achieving balanced trade for mutual benefit.”
