Jharkhand MLA Jayaram Mahto Demands CBI Inquiry After Police Action Against Protesting Students

Ranchi, August 11: Jayaram Mahto, an MLA from the Jharkhand Democratic Revolutionary Front (JLRF), condemned the police action against students protesting alleged irregularities in the JPSC-JSSC examinations. He has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the entire matter.

On Monday night, Mahto demanded a high-level judicial investigation into the police baton charge on the students. In a statement released on social media, he criticized the use of force against students who were attempting to surround the assembly, describing it as a failure of governance. According to him, the government had ample time to engage with the students and find a solution but failed to grasp the seriousness of the issue.

Upon learning about the baton charge, Mahto visited the Sadar Hospital to meet the injured students and inquire about their well-being. He later went to the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium to meet with the protesting students. He stated that they discussed future strategies and he encouraged them to continue their fight. Mahto remarked that the baton charge in the dead of night reminded him of the atrocities during British rule. He emphasized that such actions against students peacefully raising their voices are unacceptable.

The MLA also questioned the government regarding the alleged irregularities in the recruitment examinations. He pointed out that the arrest of the JPSC chairman and the resignation of three commission members indicate that irregularities have indeed occurred. He mentioned a case where all 33 students from a particular subject at a university became CDPOs and demanded a fair investigation into this matter.

Referring to the case involving TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL), he questioned why the government hesitated to initiate a CBI inquiry after Abhay Tiwari, associated with the company, allegedly admitted to extorting between 40 to 60 lakh rupees.

Mahto has urged the government to conduct a CBI inquiry into the JPSC-JSSC recruitment matters, cancel the JSSC CGL examination, and annul all exams linked to TDPL. He also called for a judicial investigation into the baton charge incident, to be overseen by a retired judge of the High Court.
