Jaipur, April 7: Central Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated a regional agriculture conference in Jaipur on Tuesday. He launched the ‘One Plant in the Name of Mother’ initiative, promoting environmental conservation. During his address, he discussed the challenges and opportunities in the agricultural sector, clarifying the government’s priorities.
Chouhan stated that this regional conference serves as a platform to discuss various critical aspects of agriculture. He emphasized that agriculture is not merely a means of food production; it is the foundation of life. The importance of food security has grown, as ensuring sufficient grains, fruits, vegetables, and milk for the country’s 1.4 billion population is a significant responsibility.
He outlined three main goals set by the government for the agricultural sector. The first goal is to ensure food security so that people do not face shortages under any circumstances. The second goal focuses on increasing farmers’ incomes and improving their living standards.
Chouhan noted that merely stocking food is not enough; the prosperity of farmers is equally essential. The third goal aims to provide better nutrition to citizens and enable India to be a global supplier of food grains.
To achieve these objectives, the government has devised several strategies. These include increasing agricultural production, reducing production costs, ensuring fair prices for farmers’ produce, and providing compensation for losses due to natural disasters.
He also mentioned that the conference will feature discussions on increasing oilseed production, promoting natural farming, and integrated agricultural systems.
The minister highlighted the significance of the oilseed mission in addressing the country’s shortage of edible oils. Additionally, efforts are being made to promote environmental conservation and reduce costs through natural farming practices.
Chouhan expressed confidence that this conference would set a clear direction for enhancing farmers’ incomes and making agriculture more sustainable and profitable.
He concluded by stating that such regional agricultural conferences not only strengthen policies but also serve as a robust medium for dialogue between farmers and experts, facilitating overall development in the agricultural sector.
