New Delhi, May 27: Congress MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor has expressed a positive response to the formation of a high-level committee by the Ministry of Home Affairs to address demographic changes. Tharoor emphasized that this development is significant and that understanding accurate and comprehensive data is essential before engaging in serious discussions about its political implications.
In a conversation, Tharoor stated, “Many things are happening. Various changes are underway. I believe it is crucial to comprehend the data we are dealing with before we have any serious discussions about its political effects. Otherwise, people might misuse the data, especially if it is incomplete, leading to unnecessary political controversies.”
He stressed the importance of having accurate facts and figures that reflect all demographic factors and trends. Referring to the ongoing national census, Tharoor noted that this process will also prove beneficial.
Tharoor attended the book launch of ‘What If… Why Not’ by H.E. Mohammed Maliki, the Ambassador of Morocco, as the chief guest. Praising the book, Tharoor remarked, “This is not just a diplomatic memoir. It contains childhood memories and insights on life, humanity, and relationships. It is beautifully written and deeply touching, truly establishing the human connection that diplomacy is about.”
He highlighted the ambassador’s significant contribution, stating that Maliki has made diplomacy a medium of empathy, memory, and cultural bridging, especially between India and Morocco.
During the event, Dr. Shashi Tharoor also announced the winner of the 11th Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize. This year, the award went to Bena Sareen for the stunning cover design of Amitava Kumar’s book ‘My Beloved Life.’ Tharoor congratulated Sareen, noting that her design beautifully captures the essence of the book.
