Washington, September 1: In response to Iran’s actions, US President Donald Trump has issued a warning of retaliation. On Monday, Trump stated that Iran launched ballistic missiles at American forces stationed in Jordan overnight. The United States will respond decisively.
In a phone interview with Fox News, Trump declared, “We will hit them hard. There will be a response.” He explained that one of the Iranian missiles fired during the night was intentionally not intercepted by the US air defense system, as it was assessed to be heading towards no target. However, the remaining incoming missiles were intercepted mid-flight.
Despite the tensions, Trump noted that the possibility of negotiations is not entirely off the table. He remarked, “They want to talk. But I don’t know if we can trust them to reach an agreement.”
Trump emphasized that “the impact of sanctions is now very evident.” According to a US source cited by Fox News, Iran fired at least eight ballistic missiles at American forces in Jordan on Sunday. This attack followed US airstrikes on missile launchers belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Larak Island. Reports indicate that there was no significant damage from the attack.
On the other hand, Iran’s Fars News Agency quoted the IRGC’s statement, claiming that the Iranian military targeted “technical and maintenance structures” at the King Hussein and Al-Azraq US military bases in Jordan, as well as areas where “enemy fighter jets” were stationed. Iran asserts that this attack caused substantial damage.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) described the attack on Larak Island as a “limited and precise action,” aimed at countering Iran’s military capabilities that pose an immediate threat to commercial shipping and global trade passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Following the attack, the IRGC stated that several military personnel and civilians were killed or injured. The organization vowed to respond to the attack by “punishing the aggressor.”
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported, based on unofficial sources, that at least two people were killed and two others injured in the US drone strike on Larak Island.
