Yoga Practices That Benefit Kidney Health: Learn the Right Techniques

New Delhi, September 1: True health is not just about treating diseases; it’s about maintaining a naturally strong and healthy body. The kidneys serve as our body’s natural filtration system, playing a crucial role in detoxification. Yoga is not merely physical exercise; it is a subtle technique for massaging and rejuvenating internal organs. Through the right yoga practices, pranayama, and mindfulness, we can not only keep our kidneys healthy but also protect them from serious future risks.

The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga has highlighted several asanas that positively impact kidney function. These include Uttanapadasana, Setu Bandhasana, Dhanurasana, Bhujangasana, Ardha Matsyendrasana, Vakrasana, Kati Chakrasana, and Trikonasana.

Uttanapadasana: While this asana does not directly cure kidney diseases, it strengthens internal systems and enhances kidney function. According to the Ministry of AYUSH, when practitioners lift their legs during this pose, blood flow from the lower body increases towards the abdomen and lower back, where the kidneys are located. Improved circulation provides the kidneys with adequate oxygen, allowing them to filter blood more effectively.

Setu Bandhasana: This yoga pose stimulates not only the kidneys but also the internal organs of the abdomen. It promotes smooth blood circulation in the pelvic area and around the kidneys, nourishing these organs. Additionally, it plays a significant role in controlling high blood pressure.

Dhanurasana: Practicing Dhanurasana stretches the abdomen and lower back, enhancing blood flow to internal organs, including the kidneys. This asana is believed to help eliminate toxins from the body and alleviate urinary disorders.

Vakrasana: This pose stimulates the pancreas, improving insulin secretion. The twisting movement in Vakrasana applies gentle pressure to the lower abdomen and back muscles, enhancing blood circulation in the kidney area.

Bhujangasana: Regular practice of this asana strengthens and increases the flexibility of the spine. It exerts pressure on the abdominal organs, improving digestion. The stretching involved provides a gentle massage to internal organs like the kidneys, enhancing their functionality.

Ardha Matsyendrasana: This asana effectively massages the abdominal organs and boosts blood circulation.

Kati Chakrasana: The twisting movements during Kati Chakrasana provide a gentle massage to internal organs such as the kidneys and liver. This pose increases blood flow to the spine and abdomen, helping the kidneys receive better oxygen and nutrition.

Trikonasana: While performing this asana, one side of the body contracts while the other stretches, improving blood flow to organs like the kidneys and liver.

Practicing these asanas can offer numerous benefits to the body. However, while they do not directly treat severe kidney diseases, incorporating them into a healthy lifestyle can keep the abdominal organs functioning optimally.
