Mumbai, August 11: Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal has responded to Sharad Pawar’s recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He addressed various issues, including student protests in Jharkhand, the Congress core committee meeting, and ongoing Supreme Court hearings related to the Shiv Sena. Sapkal dismissed speculation about Pawar joining the NDA, stating that drawing political conclusions based solely on attendance at an event is inappropriate. He expressed hope for a swift decision from the court regarding the Shiv Sena case.
Regarding the meeting with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, Sapkal remarked that attending a wedding or ceremony is not inherently wrong. He emphasized that participating in social events is part of maintaining social dignity, and political commentary based solely on such attendance is unwarranted. Pawar has previously addressed these questions, and his statements should be trusted.
On the Congress core committee meeting, Sapkal noted that the gathering reviewed recent political developments and party activities. He mentioned that discussions were held about upcoming programs, with plans for future events established.
In response to the protests in Jharkhand, where the BJP has been critical of Congress, Sapkal highlighted Rahul Gandhi‘s strong condemnation of police violence during the demonstrations. He stated that Congress is taking the matter seriously and may engage in dialogue with those involved in the protests.
Regarding the Supreme Court hearings related to the Shiv Sena, Sapkal expressed hope for a prompt resolution. He noted that the public is well-informed about the facts of the case. He urged the court to base its decision on legal and constitutional grounds, asserting that political commentary should not follow judicial outcomes, regardless of which side prevails.
Expressing concern over delays in justice, Sapkal pointed out that recent events have led to various comments about the judicial system. He stressed the importance of maintaining public trust in both the judiciary and Parliament in a democracy.
When asked if he believes the Shiv Sena’s election symbol could return to Uddhav Thackeray, Sapkal cautioned against viewing this as mere hope. He stated that the truth must be acknowledged, and the facts surrounding the Shiv Sena dispute should be clarified through the judicial process.
