Rahul Gandhi Faces Criticism Over Silence on Controversial Remarks by Muslim Clerics

Dehradun, September 2: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a session in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. He accused Gandhi and the Congress party of attempting to undermine Sanatan Dharma instead of responding to the alleged offensive remarks made by Muslim clerics.

In a press conference, the Chief Minister reiterated his denial of allegations regarding a purification ritual at the site where Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge addressed an event.

Referring to the controversial comments made by Kerala’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abubakr Ahmed, CM Dhami stated that the Congress party’s leader (Rahul Gandhi) consistently makes statements aimed at harming Sanatan Dharma. He noted that just days ago, Gandhi commented on patriarchal systems, and now a Grand Mufti has made highly controversial statements about women, suggesting they should not leave their homes. Dhami criticized both Congress and Rahul Gandhi for their silence on such remarks.

He emphasized that when it comes to Sanatan Dharma, Gandhi spares no effort in causing damage.

The Chief Minister also mentioned the inflammatory speech by Muslim cleric Mufti Mujib near Trishul Chowk in Rudrapur, where Mujib made chaotic remarks. He pointed out that neither Congress nor its ‘young prince’ (Rahul Gandhi) responded to this. Mujib was later arrested for making incendiary statements.

According to police reports, Mujib threatened that if the government shuts down madrasas, the consequences would be unimaginable for Muslims.

Meanwhile, CM Dhami reminded everyone of the Uttarakhand government’s decision to close any madrasa that does not obtain approval from the minority education authority or fails to adhere to the curriculum set by the education board. He stated that the aim is to ensure that students receive modern education, emphasizing that every child deserves such education, regardless of their background.

Dhami also addressed the ‘purification’ controversy in Haldwani, asserting, “This was neither about an individual nor a community. There is no evidence that any community was insulted during the event.” He mentioned that jihadi slogans were raised at the event site, prompting members of a religious organization named ‘Shri Ram Sena’ to protest with a ‘havan’ (a fire ritual).

He accused Congress of fabricating a narrative around the incident for electoral gains. Highlighting that members of scheduled castes were also part of the organization, CM Dhami questioned how individuals from the same community could engage in ‘purification’ against their own.
