Severe Weather Alert: Storms, Lightning, and Hail Expected in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, May 5: Madhya Pradesh is bracing for a spell of severe weather. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for several districts regarding storms, lightning, hail, and strong winds.

In areas such as Sidhi, Sanjay Dubri National Park, Eastern Anuppur, and Northern Neemuch, winds could reach speeds of up to 60 km/h, accompanied by moderate storms, lightning, and hail.

This evening, light showers with lightning are expected in Southern Neemuch, Western Anuppur, Amarkantak, Northeast Mandsaur, Vidisha, Bhopal, Agar, Rajgarh, Northern Barwani, Southern Rewa, Mauganj, Shahdol, Bansagar Dam, Sagar, Damoh, Northern Seoni, Northern Mandla, and Western Raisen. Moderate thunderstorm activity with hail is anticipated in Singrauli.

According to the Meteorological Center in Bhopal, strong winds of 60-70 km/h may occur in parts of Datia, Bhind, Rewa, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari. Other districts, including Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Narmadapuram, Betul, Shajapur, Agar, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Morena, Shyopur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Panna, Damoh, and Sagar, are also likely to experience thunderstorms with rain at speeds of 40-60 km/h.

The IMD bulletin warns that hail could damage standing crops, fruits, vegetables, and fragile structures. Farmers are advised to take protective measures, such as covering crops or harvesting early where possible. Livestock should be moved to safe locations, and vehicles should be parked securely to prevent damage.

Citizens are urged to stay indoors during storms, unplug electrical devices, and avoid seeking shelter under trees or near power lines. Meteorologists indicate that a western disturbance is present as a trough in the mid and upper tropospheric westerlies, along with cyclonic circulation over Haryana and eastern Madhya Pradesh. These systems are expected to maintain stormy conditions across the state until May 8.

In light of the anticipated strong winds, lightning, and hail, residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow official guidance. The IMD emphasizes the importance of taking precautions to minimize potential harm to life, property, and agriculture during this unstable weather period.
