The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe rainfall alert for several parts of the country, warning of heavy to very heavy rains along with lightning in at least eight states. The alert includes key regions like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and various northeastern states.
The monsoon has now advanced into most parts of India and is expected to cover the entire country in the next couple of days. IMD forecasts indicate that residents in multiple regions should brace for strong winds and intense downpours.
Heavy Rain & Thunderstorm Expected in Delhi
A yellow alert has been issued for Delhi, with expectations of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds today. While recent showers provided relief from the searing heat in the capital, rising temperatures have once again made conditions uncomfortable for residents. The forecast suggests a temporary reprieve as the latest rain system moves in.
Bihar Under Heavy Rain Alert
Several districts in Bihar are also on high alert. An orange alert has been issued for West Champaran, East Champaran, Kishanganj, and Araria districts, with expectations of heavy rainfall. A yellow alert is in place for Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Madhubani, and Supaul. Widespread showers are likely across Bihar on Monday.
8 States Under Orange Alert
An orange alert for heavy rain has been issued for the following eight states:
Assam
Madhya Pradesh
Manipur
Meghalaya
Mizoram
Nagaland
Tripura
Uttar Pradesh
In its earlier forecast, IMD had already predicted intense rainfall activity across Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and the Konkan-Goa region until June 26.
Red Alert for Eastern Rajasthan & Western Madhya Pradesh
The IMD has issued a red alert — the highest level — for eastern Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh today. Along with very heavy rainfall, there is also a high risk of lightning in these areas.
Rain Forecast for Other Regions
Additional heavy rain alerts have also been issued for:
Uttarakhand
Himachal Pradesh
Eastern Madhya Pradesh
Bihar
West Bengal
Sikkim
Assam
Meghalaya
Arunachal Pradesh
Residents in these areas are advised to stay updated with local weather bulletins and take necessary precautions during this period of heightened rainfall activity.
