Support Grows for Central Law Against Religious Conversion
Multiple organisations have extended their support to MP Dr Mannalal Rawat’s demand for a central law to curb religious conversions. They urged the government to take a prompt decision on the issue. Religious, social, and political representatives stated that conversion leads individuals to develop anti-national sentiments, which could threaten the identity and security of the country. The saint community warned that they would not hesitate to take to the streets against conversion and ‘love jihad’.

Dr Rawat Raises Issue in Parliament
Udaipur MP Dr Mannalal Rawat raised the issue in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, demanding strong legislation to prevent religious conversions. He pointed out that 16 states in India do not have any law against conversion, which allows individuals like Chhangur Baba to thrive. Many people responded in support of Dr Rawat, calling his demand necessary for national interest.
VHP Flags Organised Conversion and ‘Love Jihad’
Sunderlal Kataria, Joint Provincial Secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), said that religious conversion is being carried out in a planned manner across the country through ‘love jihad’ and organised networks. He added that such incidents have surfaced in several districts of Rajasthan, including a recent case in Vijaynagar, Bhilwara. Kataria said that not only Muslim conversions are taking place, but Christian conversions are also active in tribal regions. According to him, such conversions instill anti-national thoughts in individuals, turning religious conversion into national conversion.
Kataria added that a VHP delegation recently met the Rajasthan Chief Minister and demanded a bill against religious conversion. The Chief Minister reportedly informed them that he had intended to introduce the bill in the previous assembly session and is now considering it for the upcoming session. Kataria stressed that a complete ban on conversion is necessary, as such activities disrupt population balance and fuel separatism and terrorism.
Allegations of Conversion Training Centres in Tribal Areas
Senior BJP leader and former district president Chandragupt Singh Chauhan praised Dr Rawat’s initiative and highlighted the rapid rise of this issue in tribal areas. He claimed that new activities are being run in Mavli and Vallabhnagar regions under the names of various churches. He further alleged that a conversion training centre is being operated in Asoliyon ki Madri, Mavli. He said that under the guise of service, the poor are being exploited due to their helplessness.
BJP Accuses Congress of Indifference
BJP city district president Gajpal Singh Rathore accused the Congress government of being indifferent towards religious conversion, calling it a serious matter of national security. He said that BJP MP Dr Rawat raised the issue in Parliament and that the party has also launched a public awareness campaign against conversion.
Demand for Central Law by Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad
Bhagwan Sahay, Joint National Organising Secretary of the Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, also backed the call for a central law. He said Dr Rawat raised this long-standing demand in Parliament. According to him, many states still lack anti-conversion laws, making a central law essential.
Saint Leaders Vow to Protest if Needed
Mahant Indradev Das, founder and president of the Sarv Sampraday Sant Sansthan, said that lack of legal framework has allowed people like Chhangur Baba to grow unchecked. He supported Dr Rawat’s demand and urged the government to act quickly. He added that if needed, the saint community would take to the streets against conversion and ‘love jihad’, calling such activities shameful for the country.
Bajrang Sena Calls for Immediate Central Action
Kamalendra Singh, Mewar head of the Bajrang Sena, said the organisation has been fighting against religious conversion for several years. While many cases have been stopped, he emphasised the need for a central law to impose a complete ban. He described conversion as a disease that must be eradicated before it weakens the nation from within.
