Seven Militants Surrender in Nagaland; Weapons Seized in Manipur

Kohima, May 8: On Thursday, seven militants linked to various insurgent groups surrendered in Dimapur, Nagaland. Meanwhile, in the neighboring state of Manipur, the Assam Rifles recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition during intelligence-led operations. Officials provided these updates.

A defense spokesperson stated that the continuous efforts of security forces and coordinated outreach led to the surrender of these militants. The initiative aims to encourage misguided youth to abandon violence and reintegrate into society.

During the surrender, the militants also handed over weapons and ammunition, confirming a collective commitment to peace and stability in the region.

Based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of operatives from various factions in certain areas of Dimapur, the Assam Rifles conducted targeted outreach campaigns. They maintained close coordination with other security agencies to facilitate the surrender process.

As a result of these ongoing efforts, seven hardline anti-national elements from different groups surrendered at the Dimapur police station in the presence of Assam Rifles personnel and representatives from other security agencies.

During the surrender ceremony, the militants submitted a cache of weapons, including four .22 caliber pistols with ammunition, a 7.65 mm pistol, a single-barrel shotgun, a single-barrel gun, and a carbine with a magazine.

The spokesperson noted that the successful surrender reflects the effectiveness of intelligence-based operations and the humanitarian and motivational approach adopted by security forces in dealing with insurgent elements in the region.

He added that the Assam Rifles, in close coordination with other security agencies, remains committed to maintaining peace, security, and stability in the Northeast. They will continue to encourage misguided youth to join the mainstream and contribute positively to society.

In a separate operation in Manipur, the Assam Rifles recovered a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the Maranmei hill range in Senapati district during a coordinated operation based on intelligence.

The defense spokesperson reported that the recovered arsenal includes 15 weapons, such as an AK-47 rifle, an MP5 rifle, a .303 rifle, several .22 rifles, locally made bolt-action rifles, pistols, a shotgun, and various calibers of ammunition.

Authorities stated that the seized weapons and ammunition have been handed over to the Manipur police for further investigation and necessary legal action.
