Security Forces Foil Maoist Plot, Recover Explosives in Bastar

In a significant breakthrough in the anti-Naxal operations, security forces recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Maoists in the forested hills near Gufa village, under the jurisdiction of Barsur Police Station in Dantewada district, South Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

The joint operation was launched early Tuesday following precise intelligence inputs received from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on January 22. Acting on this information, a coordinated search and de-mining mission began at dawn, involving CRPF personnel, the bomb disposal squad, and officers from Barsur Police Station.

During the search in the dense forest area around Gufa village, teams found a directional pipe bomb weighing approximately five kilograms, equipped with a detonator, and a pressure cooker IED of similar weight connected to a 15-metre wire.

Both explosive devices were immediately transported to a safe location where the bomb disposal squad successfully neutralised them, eliminating any threat to security personnel and local residents.

The operation was led by Commandant Anil Kumar Singh of the 195 Battalion, along with the bomb disposal team headed by Young Platoon and Assistant Commandant Himanshu. Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai and Additional Superintendent of Police R.K. Barman are overseeing intensified anti-Naxal patrolling and area domination efforts in Dantewada district.

This latest recovery highlights the effectiveness of continuous ground operations supported by reliable intelligence sharing among agencies. Officials have described the operation as a major setback to Maoist activities in the region, preventing possible ambushes or attacks on patrolling parties and villagers.

The swift neutralisation of explosives demonstrates high-level coordination between the CRPF, local police, and intelligence units. Such recoveries are vital in weakening the logistics network of Naxalite groups operating in the Bastar division.
